Drink two glasses of water before each meal can help you lose weight, according to a new study presented Monday at the annual meeting of the American Chemical Society in Boston.
obese people who drank two glasses of about 250 cc of water before breakfast, lunch and dinner, they lost 2.2 kg more than people who had not increased water intake. Those who drank more water also kept the weight after a year, said Brenda Davy, associate professor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
The study included only middle-aged and older adults aged between 55 and 75 years who were on a diet (1,200 calories per day for women and 1,500 calories per day for men). At half the people were advised to drink half a liter water before each meal. After three months, people who drank water had lost an average of 7 pounds, while those who had not done so, it had declined to less than 5 kg
