In Emilia-Romagna, as in many other low-lying coastal areas and beaches that border the Mediterranean, the beaches are increasingly subject to erosion and at risk of flooding for storm events . In addition to the decrease in river sediment inputs, the phenomenon of subsidence and the worsening climate meteo-marine, one of the key exposure at risk of coastal areas has been accentuated over time by the gradual dismantling of the equipment dune.
few years ago, in Resolution 645/2005 of the Regional Council, the Region has approved the guidelines for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) which indicates, among other actions for the protection and regeneration of coastal , the reconstruction of the coastal dunes and the introduction of legal provisions to protect the dunes that still exist and for their recovery and rehabilitation.
The dunes, in fact, represent a natural defense structure and at the same time a reservoir of sand for beach nourishment of natural beaches, as well as a valid contrast to the intrusion of the salt wedge to protect fresh water aquifers in the nearby hinterland.
Once the dune strips extending along most of the coastal region. To date, about 130 km of coastline region, only about 34 km of mountains bear dunes, of which about 10 km in the province of Ferrara, 22 km in the province of Ravenna and the remaining 2 km distributed in the southern coast.
The aim of the conference, then, is to draw attention to the issue of protection, recovery and rehabilitation of coastal dunes of the equipment, the introduction of new techniques and methods of intervention for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of dunes on the experiences and achievements of other regions and whether to start a specific line of work on the subject.
